Ecobee’s new premium thermostats finally have a look that matches their price tags
Ecobee announced the world’s first smart thermostat on October 10, 2008, and the company hasn’t looked back since. Its latest offerings – the Premium Smart Thermostat and the Enhanced Smart Thermostat – aim to push the limits of what a thermostat can do, outpacing competitors like the Nest Thermostat.
Unlike the Ecobee 3 Lite, the company’s new smart home gadgets are built with radar sensors, providing enhanced presence detection and security. The company says they can be installed in just 45 minutes and can be controlled via their phone, tablet or Apple Watch. Additionally, Ecobee states that these hands-free controlled automation gadgets are backed with a 3-year warranty.
50% larger circle-shaped thermostats and more high-resolution displays make the interface easier to navigate, providing larger temperature sliders and a less cramped view. Ecobee’s latest offerings will also display important data on metrics like estimated carbon dioxide levels, indoor air quality, and volatile compounds, among others. They will alert customers via the Ecobee app to poor air quality nearby and share steps to improve it.
The Premium and Enhanced models have been designed to meet climate sustainability goals. They will come equipped with the “eco+” suite of smart features that the company says can save up to $230 on annual heating and cooling costs by adapting to homeowners’ routines. The Smart Thermostat Premium, which is encased in zinc, has a built-in smart speaker that can be used with Siri or Alexa voice intelligence assistants.
The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced is currently available for $189.99, while the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium is priced at $249.99, making it one of the most premium offerings around. However, Ecobee promises a lot of savings on heating and cooling costs thanks to its smart algorithms, so the investment could well be worth it.
