CFL Edmonton Elks unveil revamped uniforms

After wearing makeshift uniforms for a year, the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Elks have some new duds to go along with their new name and new helmets.

The Elks unveiled the uniforms via their social media and website on Friday, May 20, with help from local high school football players. The front of the green home shirt features a white Elks wordmark above the unoutlined white numbers. Three gold bands around each sleeve are interrupted by an alternate white Elks logo from wood forming the shape of a soccer ball. The sleeve design is reminiscent of the jerseys the team wore in the 1970s, 1980s and first half of the 1990s.

The white away shirt features a contrasting green collar and a green Elks wordmark above the green numbers, again without an outline. The stripes under the logo on each sleeve are gold again.

The golden pants have a green stripe on each side. A white antler football logo is repeated inside the band. These pants, along with plain green socks, were photographed with both jerseys on Friday.

The uniforms go hand in hand with the new helmets of the Elks, which have been unveiled March 3. These helmets bring back the team’s classic double E logo in green on a yellow shell.

The team officially changed its name to the Elks in June 2021, a year after announcing that they would be dropping their old moniker. For the 2021 CFL season, the Elks wore what appeared to be their pre-change uniforms, but with an “EDMONTON” crest over the old name on the front and a different number font. The numbers were also changed from gold to white on the green home shirt.

The new uniforms will see their first action on Friday, May 27, when the Elks travel to Winnipeg for a preseason game against the Blue Bombers. They will be worn for the first time at home at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton the following week when the Elks host the Calgary Stampeders in another preseason game on Friday, June 3.
